Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated, energetic and detail-oriented Lab Operations Associate to join our team to help maintain the organization of our laboratory space. This individual will be responsible for inventory control of general lab consumables, collecting, cleaning and autoclaving glassware, and re-ordering of lab supply shelves. Additional responsibilities will include maintaining and improving lab safety, the safe removal of biohazardous waste from the lab to the appropriate disposal area, and daily inspection and maintenance of equipment to ensure their proper function. This role will be based fully on-site in Berkeley, CA for 40 hours per week with anticipated working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm or as needed. The contract is expected to last for 6-12 months with the possibility of conversion to full-time employee at the end of the term.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage laboratory inventory by tracking stock levels, working with Lab Operations Manager and Operations Generalists on procurement tasks.
  • Handle a daily inspection checklist which includes laboratory maintenance tasks such as emptying biohazard bins, aspirators, and verifying lab infrastructure levels
  • Receive, inspect, and store incoming materials while maintaining appropriate levels in the lab supply points
  • Establish robust inventory thresholds, alternate consumable chains, and ordering cadences to ensure no interruptions to lab work flows
  • Maintain organized storage areas (e.g., freezers, refrigerators, stockrooms) and perform routine inventory audits and cycle counts.

Support day-to-day lab operations by distributing supplies, assisting in coordinating vendor services, and maintaining clean, organized workspaces

Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.Sc. in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or another relevant life science, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with sterile technique when handling media, cultures, or samples
  • Ability to read gauges and accurately record measured values
  • Relevant experience including 1+ years in a lab operations or lab support role, preferably within a biotech startup environment. Various levels for the role will be considered depending on the candidate’s specific experience
  • The ability to lift 25+ lbs
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with high volume and time-sensitive materials
  • Collaborative, detail-oriented, and reliable, with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Communicate clearly with colleagues across teams, proactively updating stakeholders when items arrive or require special handling
  • Willing to roll up your sleeves to support lab operations and office needs as part of a small, hands-on team
  • Key Attributes:
  • Prior Experience in Lab Ops or Lab Management or the desire to develop in those areas
  • Demonstrated interest in Biotechnology, Lab Operations, and the Science going on at Prellis Bio

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.

Base Salary:

$32 - $36 per hour
